Sumo Push

  • 2–4 players
  • Hold and drag in your zone, double-tap to dash. Or WASD, arrows, IJKL, numpad
  • 2 player party games

Shove your rivals off a shrinking platform. Sumo Push is a free 2 player game on one phone. Roll a heavy ball, dash into rivals and knock them off a shrinking arena. Up to 4 players, or CPU balls.

How to play

Sumo Push is a 2 player game for one phone on a table. Each player is a glowing ball on a round platform in the middle of the screen. Push the other balls off the edge, and stay on yourself. The last ball left on the platform wins the round.

The screen is split into one zone for each player: top and bottom halves for two players, four corners for three or four. Put a finger down anywhere in your zone and drag. The direction runs from where your finger touched down to where it is now, and the further you drag, the harder you push. Lift your finger and your ball slides to a stop. Everyone can play at once, so use as many fingers as there are players.

Double-tap your zone to dash. The dash gives your ball a burst of speed and makes it hit much harder for a moment. It points the way your ball is already moving. The dash needs under two seconds to recharge, and a meter in your zone shows when it is ready.

On a computer, use the keyboard: W A S D and E to dash for Red, the arrow keys and Enter for Blue, I J K L and U for Yellow, and the numpad 8 4 5 6 and 0 for Green. When you play one person against the computer, you can drag anywhere on the screen.

Rules

  • Every round starts with a 3, 2, 1 countdown.
  • After four seconds the platform starts to shrink. If nobody falls, it keeps shrinking until it is gone, so a round never drags on.
  • A ball is out when its centre goes over the edge.
  • Balls bounce off each other with real weight. A ball that is moving fast, or dashing, sends the other one flying.
  • The last ball on the platform wins the round. If the last balls fall together, the round is a draw and is played again.
  • It is best of three. The first player to win two rounds takes the match.

Tips

  • Stay near the middle. The platform shrinks around you, so the centre is the safest place.
  • Let your opponent come to you. A ball that charges across the platform is easy to dodge, and it will slide right off the edge.
  • Save your dash for when the other ball is closer to the edge than you are.
  • With more than two players, wait while the others fight, then finish off the survivor.
  • Computer balls come in three levels: Easy, Normal and Hard. Hard reacts quickly and dashes often.

Why it’s fun

It is a short shoving match that ends with a satisfying shove off the edge. Pass the phone around, play best of three, and see who is the real sumo champion.
