Hue Hop

Hop through the rings, but only in your own colour. Hue Hop is a free one-tap color matching arcade game. Hop a ball upward, pass only through your own colour, grab stars and see how high you can climb.

How to play

Your ball starts at the bottom of the screen and waits for you. Tap anywhere (or press Space) to hop. Every tap gives the ball a fresh upward kick, and gravity pulls it back down between taps, so you climb by tapping again and again at a steady rhythm.

The ball is one of four colours: pink, yellow, green or blue. Obstacles are made of the same four colours, and you may only pass through a part that matches your ball. Touch any other colour and the run is over.

You will meet four kinds of obstacle:

  • Rings that spin and are split into four coloured arcs.
  • Twin rings, one inside the other, turning in opposite directions.
  • Crosses whose four arms sweep across your path.
  • Sliding bars made of coloured segments that slip sideways, sometimes two at a time.

Between obstacles you will find a star and a colour orb. Fly through the orb and your ball changes colour. The new colour is always one that the next obstacle contains, so you can always get through if your timing is right. Once you have climbed past an obstacle it fades and can no longer hurt you, even if you drop back down.

Scoring

  • Every star is 1 point. There is one in each gap between obstacles, so your score is how far you climbed.
  • The camera only follows you upward. If you fall off the bottom of the screen, the run ends, so keep tapping.
  • Obstacles spin and slide faster the higher you go, and tricky ones appear later. After a while an obstacle may be missing one colour, which is exactly why the orbs matter.

Tips

  • Tap in small, even beats. Short hops give you control; a long gap between taps lets the ball fall too far.
  • Wait inside the ring. The middle of a ring is safe. Hop in through your colour, hover, then leave through the next arc that matches.
  • Watch the arc, not the ball. Look at where your colour is heading and start your hop early.
  • Read the cross. The arms are safe to touch only in your colour, so wait for the right arm to come round.

Why it’s fun

Hue Hop is easy to learn and hard to put down. Each hop is a tiny decision, and the spinning colours make every run look different. Runs are quick, your best score is saved on your device, and there is always one more ring to beat.
